Gibraltar Airport also services the Costa del Sol, although there are few flights and they’re almost exclusively to and from the UK. Another downside: queues to leave Gibraltar are often very long and customs checks seem to go on forever.
Transport to Gibraltar airport
There’s no public transport from the Costa del Sol except for taxis. They may drop you off at the border rather than wait in the queue to get in and out of Gibraltar. Note that you may need a visa to enter Spain from Gibraltar, as it is not part of the EU.
By car
If you arrive to Malaga airport and decide to hire a car, you can get to Malaga airport driving. If you are not staying in Gibraltar, we recommend to park before the border, so you can avoid long queues.
By taxi
Another option is to book a taxi transfer from Malaga to Gibraltar; the transfer would drop you also outside the border so you can cross it on foot.
By Bus
There is no direct bus to Gibraltar from Malaga airport. We recommend taking a bus to La Linea from Malaga bus station; this trip lasts around 2 hours and it will get you to the border with Gibraltar.
There is a semi-direct bus from Malaga to Marbella, Estepona and Algeciras with the following stops:
- Malaga
- Malaga airport
- Marbella
- Estepona
- Algeciras
By train
There is no train link to Gibraltar, so you cannot use this means of transport for getting there. Your only choice in case it fits your travel plans is getting a train to Ronda and transfer there to another train from Ronda to Algeciras.
