The increase in passengers experienced at Malaga airport during the first 5 months of this year is partly due to the low cost carrier Ryanair. Since establishing a base of operations in June 2010 at the popular Costa del Sol airport, the controversial Irish company has experienced an increase of 92%.
Although Ryanair is a controversial company, however, the numbers speak for themselves. As the crisis has hit the pockets of travelers, many seem to opt for a cheaper flight but much less convenient in order to enjoy the mild weather, sun and beaches of the Costa del Sol.
In this way, Ryanair has carried from many national and international destinations from January to May almost a million passengers to Malaga airport-Costa del Sol. It is expected to be a good year for tourism in the Costa del Sol; also is expected that this year pass more than 13,5 million passengers through Malaga airport.
