Rincon de la Victoria
El Rincón de la Victoria is the point of departure
of "La Ruta del Sol y la Ruta del Aguacate".
Its population of 25.000 inhabitants is distributed
amongst tour urban centres, three coastal and one
in the interior. With its nine kilometres of beaches
with fine sands and warm waters, the town offers the
visitor all the attractions to enjoy to the maximum
their leisure time.
History
Its first known settlers left, during the higher Palaeolithic
Age, cave paintings in "La Cueva del Higuerón"
and "La Cueva del Tesoro", place from
which it is possible to enjoy splendid views. Furthermore,
there are numerous historical accounts of the existence
of Rincon de la Victoria, highlighting those during
Phoenician times, who tell of a temple in honour of
the goddess Noctiluca, Roman times and those of the
andalusi period, when it is mentioned by Al- Idrissi
in his chronicles.
Festivities
Like an eminently seafaring town, its main festivity
is that of "La Virgen del Carmen" on the
16th of July. "El Boquerón vitoriano",
together with the variety of fried fish, are the star
dishes on summer nights at the Rincón.
Location
Rincón de la Victoria is situated to the east
of Malaga and includes four localities: Benagalbón,
la Cala del Moral, Rincón de la Victoria and
Torre de Benagalbón. Rincón de la Victoria
is the largest and was until very recently a traditional
fishing village, but over the last fifteen years or
so, its proximity to Malaga and good Communications
have made the town very attractive to commuters, with
the result that population growth has been spectacular.
Sights
The town's traditional architecture has been
conserved in spite of intense new construction. The
centre is attractive and includes several important
monuments and the interesting Cueva del Tesoro lies
to the north of the town. Rincón de la Victoria
is connected to La Cala del Moral by a seven kilometre
sea front walk.
