Pujerra
Situated on one of the summits of Sierra Bermeja,
inside the administrative district of La Serranía
de Ronda, Pujerra is one of the most visited towns
in the whole area. Since ancient times, it has been
a compulsory transit area to get from the towns situated
south of Ronda to the coast. Its present population
is of 400 inhabitants and its town setting responds
to the characteristic Muslim layout, with winding,
narrow streets, extremely irregular whilst its natural
environment is made up of and is maintained in an
excellent state of conservation. Apart from is town
centre, the most significant monument in Pujerra is
the Church of El Espíritu Santo, built in the
Sixteenth Century.
The local holidays and festivities of Pujerra, in
honour of San Antonio de Padua, are celebrated during
June. Other important celebrations are the one that
takes place on the 3rd of November, in honour of La
Virgen de Fátima.
Its gastronomy has amongst its most outstanding dishes
"la olla", "la pinchitada",
"el mosto" and "la postura".
From its confectionery, one can highlight "los
roscos caseros", "los buñuelos"
and "los tostones".
