Carratraca
With a population of 900 inhabitants and situated
in the northern part of El Valle del Guadalhorce is
known due to its spa, one of its principal tourist
attractions at presently houses the healing waters
is situated in La Calle Bajos and is of neoclassic
styling.
The healing power of this water has been scientifically
proven and amongst its therapeutic applications are
the treatment of skin ailments, rheumatism, mucous,
tec. Amongst the personalities that have enjoyed these
baths, there are some distinguished ones like Rilke,
Romero de Torres and Moreno Carbonere.
Apart from the spa, other visits of interest include
the building known as Casa Rabe, seat of the present
town council: the bullring, built in 1878 at the foot
of La Sierra Blanquilla and obviously the vicinity
of the town, where we can find places of great scenic
and realistic interest.
One of the festivities of major tradition in carratraca
is the popular representation which, during Holy week,
re-enacts the passion and death of Christ, in which
more than one hundred actors of the town take part.
The main festivities take place in August a good time
without doubt, to enjoy its cuisine: soups, cabbage
stew, kidney bean stew, tripe or rabbit stew, will
delight the lovers of good food.
