One of the best-known spots for windsurfing in Malaga is Marbella, where you can find the Windsurf Marbella school that offers windsurfing and paddle surf courses and equipment rental. Another popular location is Estepona, where you can find several surf, windsurf, and kitesurf schools and clubs.

In addition to Marbella and Estepona, there are several other locations in the province of Malaga that offer opportunities for surfing and windsurfing. For example, Fuengirola has a beach called El Castillo where you can practice windsurfing.

The local government often organizes free courses in surf, wind surf, and paddle surf on Malaga beaches throughout the summer months. These courses are a great opportunity to learn from experienced instructors and improve your skills.

Windsurf and equipment rental

The best place near the Costa del Sol for wind and kite surfing is undoubtedly Tarifa, classed as one of the world’s top windsurfing destinations and 108km from Marbella and 158km from Malaga, the journey takes from between 90 minutes and two hours by car. However you will find many places along the coast where you can rent equipment and take windsurfing or kitesurfing classes.

Tarifa

One of the most popular windsurfing spots in Tarifa is Valdevaqueros beach, which boasts consistent wind conditions and safe sailing. The beach is in a picturesque bay surrounded by a natural park and fine sand. The prevailing winds are Poniente (west) and Levante (east), with a thermal Poniente often occurring in the summer months, reaching around force 5. Levante is typically stronger, blowing from force 5 to 9.

In Tarifa, there are several water sports centres that provide high-quality equipment rental and courses for all levels of experience. Whether you are new to windsurfing or an experienced surfer, you will find everything you need to enjoy your time on the water.
