An App for mobile devices offers cultural and tourist information of Andalusia

Cultural Routes of Andalusia’, a technological App designed for smartphones and tablets (with GPS and compass), that will allow its users to obtain, via its geolocation, advanced cultural information, as well as commercial, leisure or gastronomic, amongst others, of the place or site they want to visit. The presentation took place in Malaga’s Chamber of Commerce in front of many companies related to cultural tourism or leisure, travel agencies, hotels, etc. As it’s a public service, these entities have the chance to offer their products and services for free in this application.

‘Cultural Routes of Andalusia’ sets off as a test project and, to begin with, it will contain information about Granada, Antequera and Malaga, although it will soon cover the whole Andalusian territory and its cultural and patrimonial resources. The councillor of Culture pointed out that the support given to the cultural companies “demands a combination of quality and innovation, where the technology plays a very important role” and that the priority aim of his department is the creation of “collaborative environments so that the projects can be enriched with interested entities and entrepreneurs”.

This service, once downloaded on your mobile device, can be activated from any point of Andalusia -to plan a trip or visit ahead- or directly from the site of the chosen visit; in this case, the user, with the use of the ‘Augmented Reality’ technology, will obtain on the screen the exact location and address of the place chosen or of the existing points of interest in the action radius selected. This new cultural information tool can be downloaded free from Apple Store, from Android Market, under the name ‘Cultural Routes of Andalusia’, or from the website ‘bidi.andaluciatucultura.es’ or with the corresponding QR code; once downloaded, the icon on the screen will appear with the caption ‘culTUraAR+’.

This App was particularly designed for touch-screen devices, with a series of screens with icons, it’s intuitive, quick and easy to use and understand. The first screen shows the routes available for the moment (Granada, Antequera and Malaga); when any one of them are accessed, a list of ‘categories’ will appear -museums, hotels, shops, information offices, monuments, etc.- in which the user selects the chosen option, and then displays the relation of ‘points of interest’ related; finally, by pressing on the chosen point of interest, its information, location on map, contact details and other useful information, will appear.

This new App uses ‘Augmented Reality’ technology, specially indicated for its use on the spot from the chosen city to visit: by pressing ‘Augmented Reality’, your mobile device will indicate the points of interest in the action radius selected, or on the other hand, if you have chosen a specific point of interest, the device will guide you there, indicating the distance and the best route to get there. At this very moment, they are studying the possibility of incorporating some kind of useful element for the disabled. The App contains photographs, historical data, curiosities, possibility of ticket reservations, leisure agenda and information on restaurants, hotels, etc.

The whole App is available in Spanish, English and German, and the menus, in Russian and Chinese as well. Currently, the device contains more than 200 points of interest of the three routes, practically the whole list of existing monuments, museums or other sites; in Granada, for example, as well as many others, we’ll find the Alhambra, the Cathedral, the Carmen of the Martyrs, the Sacromonte Abbey or the House Museum of Manuel de Falla; in Antequera we’ll see the Alcazaba, the Dolmens, the Collegiate Church and all the rest; in Malaga’s route it offers the Picasso Museum, the Thyssen Museum, the Gibralfaro Castle, the Roman Theatre, the Cathedral and the rest of the cultural landmarks. Apart from these exclusively cultural points of interest, the App offers restaurants, hotels, events, shops and others.
