Costa del Sol

Costa del Sol Map

More than 300 sunny days per year, an average temperature of 19ºC (66ºF), countless beaches on a total length of 160 kilometers and beautiful landscapes with historic towns in the hinterland – this mix makes the Costa del Sol to one of the most popular holiday regions of Spain.

The Costa del Sol includes the coastal area of part of the Andalusian province of Cadiz and the entire province of Malaga. East joins the so-called Costa Tropical in the province of Granada.

On the Costa del Sol are located such well-known seaside resorts as Torremolinos and of course Marbella, which enjoys a reputation as the Mecca of the international jet set.

Among many coastal resorts which are dominated by big hotels and mass tourism can be found along the Costa del Sol also lesser known and more original spots. Overall, building density on the Spanish coast, however, is in no place as high as on the Costa del Sol.

Also worth seeing is Malaga which has its own mediterranean appeal and a special soulfulness, charm and liveliness. At the same time thanks to Malaga airport, the city is the first place most tourists get to see.

In the hinterland of this part of Spain’s Mediterranean coast are located world famous cities such as Granada and Ronda. Granada is mainly known for its Moorish heritage such as the famous Alhambra, the magnificent palace, and the district Albaycín and is one of the most visited cities in Spain. Ronda is situated spectacularly on a rocky cliff, surrounded by a deep gorge and is considered the cradle of bullfighting.

In addition to these cities also the landscape of the Costa del Sol is worth a visit.

The neighboring Sierra Nevada, at which foothills lies Granada, offers with peaks over 3,000 meters wonderful opportunities for hiking and from December to April even for skiing – with fantastic views of the Mediterranean! Very beautiful are the El Chorro gorge and the hills of Las Alpujarras. It is thus definitely worthwhile to book a rental car during your vacation in Malaga.

In addition to these advantages, the Costa del Sol offers an excellent tourist infrastructure. There are many accommodations and restaurants everywhere; in addition, there is available a great variety of sports. Besides the different water sports, golf is especially popular in this area blessed with a mild climate throughout the year: On the Costa del Sol, there are more than 30 golf courses!

As you can see there are many places to visit and things to do in Malaga. We can say that car hire Malaga airport is highly recommended for getting the most from your visit to the Costa del Sol.
